Ferrara on Mary and Herzog's Bad Lieutenant Remake
Filmmaker Magazine has an interview with Mary director Abel Ferrara, presumably to coincide with its forthcoming screening in New York. I've not heard him talk a great deal about the film - which is now 3 years old - so it's interesting to hear some of his thoughts on it (though the language is not for the faint-hearted). He also 'discusses' Werner Herzog's plan to remake Bad Lieutenant - another film with a lot of unconventional things to say about Jesus.

This film has been in the works so long that one would think Ferrara would have a better handle on the texts he is working from. It is a bummer that he doesn't seem to have taken his source material more seriously as a director.

Yeah I know what you mean. On the other hand, maybe it's because it's all so long ago that he's become hazy on some of the details! After all there has been a lot of talk about all this stuff since then (e.g. The Da Vinci Code) which may have muddied the waters a little.
Perhaps I'm being too charitable?
Matt
